Wednesday 18 August

Byrony has been progressing really well this season and she put up another excellent performance on Tuesday to win her third nursery on the bounce. She travelled very well under Pat Dobbs and quickened up really well in the home straight to win going away. She will have to step-up in class next time but she is a tough filly and is giving her owners a memorable summer.

Spensley ran a good race last week when he finished third at Leicester. He did not enjoy a clear run and was hampered by a loose horse close home. Trainer James Fanshawe and his fifteen owners have been extremely patient with Spensley and he will be one to keep an eye on next time. Similarly, Goldtrek ran very well at Salisbury last week, just tiring in the last 100 yards after travelling well for a long way.

Tuesday 27 July

Axom had its tenth win of the year last Friday, when Byrony showed a very game attitude to land a competitive nursery at Newmarket under Richard Hughes. Recording her second win in ten days, Byrony didn't look the likeliest winner two furlongs out, but as she hit the rising ground, she reeled in the leaders and pulled away for a comfortable win. She is a filly who is clearly improving and there could be more to come.

We have a number of nice horses waiting in the wings and with the weather now looking a little more changeable, we should see them out shortly. The jumpers are now back in work and there is lots to look forward to over the coming weeks.

Monday 19 July

Byrony became our first two-year-old winner of the year last week when landing a seven-furlong nursery at Kempton Park under Ryan Moore. Richard Hannon's juveniles have been flying this year and Byrony quickened up really well to win by a couple of lengths. She will hopefully progress again and may even stay a mile next year. She is a very strong filly and will hopefully continue to give her owners plenty of fun.

Friday 9 July

Goldtrek's winning run continues and she notched up her third consecutive win at Lingfield this week. The result never looked in any doubt and Steve Drowne gave her a very confident ride. This lovely looking filly will now have a short break before coming back in August for another couple of runs. She is a filly with lots of size and scope and could be even better next year as a four-year-old.

Friday 2 July

Goldtrek is in flying form at the moment and she notched up her second win this week when hacking up at Brighton. She never looked in any danger and is likely to run again next week at either Lingfield or Folkestone. The following day, Byrony ran well to finish fourth at Kempton over seven furlongs. She will be an interesting runner next time in a Nursery although she doesn't want the ground too firm. The horses are running really well at the moment and we look set to have a few exciting weeks ahead of us.

Monday 28 June

We had an excellent winner on Sunday when Ouzbeck showed real guts and determination to land the English Summer National at Uttoxeter. It was an extremely hot day but Ouzbeck travelled and jumped really well and saw out the three and a half mile trip in good style. He has been a marvellous horse for his owners and this win took his career earnings to over £100,000. He will now have a summer break and we will bring him back for one of the big Cheltenham meetings in October or November.

Friday 18 June

Beat The Rush is proving to be a very progressive horse and notched up his third win in eight starts when he hacked up at Ripon yesterday. He is a very exciting prospect and is likely to be stepped up in trip next time although there are no firm plans just yet. We look set to have a busy few days ahead with a number of runners likely. Ouzbeck still looks on course for the Summer National at Uttoxeter on 27 June and other horses expected to hit the racecourse again soon include Orkney, Byrony, Diescentric and Goldtrek.

Wednesday 16 June

It was great to see Axom XVII's Goldtrek get her head in front for the first time at Lingfield this week. She is a horse that we have always liked and ridden prominently for the first time, Goldtrek ran a very game race to beat the Sir Mark Prescott horse by a neck. Jockey Steve Drowne thinks that she has more to offer so hopefully we will enjoy a successful summer with her.

Axom VII's Ouzbeck ran over hurdles at Stratford last week and although he found the track a little on the sharp side, he ran well enough and should be spot on for his intended run in the Summer National at Uttoxeter at the end of June.

Goldtrek and Steve Drowne

Friday 21 May

We have had runners up and down the country over the last seven days and the busy period looks set to continue. The exciting Diescentric ran in a very competitive conditions race at Newmarket last Thursday and ran very well to finish fourth. Henry Cecil thinks that there is lots of improvement in him and he may now head to Royal Ascot for the Listed Hampton Court Stakes over a mile and a quarter. The following day, Beat The Rush was withdrawn from his intended engagement at York as the ground was considered too quick for him but Trojan Gift did make it to Newcastle where he finished fourth. He ran well and will be interesting next time when he tackles handicap company for the first time.

On Saturday, Orkney ran in blinkers for the first time at Doncaster and was very unlucky not to finish closer than fourth. He found trouble up the home straight and had to be switched but ran on very gamely and deserves better luck next time. On Sunday, King Of Leon had his first run over fences and he never really got into the contest and finished down the field in ninth. He may well need further but he has been a little disappointing this season. The following day, Byrony ran at Bath and although being sent off the warm favourite, she did not enjoy the firm ground and Richard Hughes was easy on her when he realised that she was not appreciating the quick conditions.

Diescentric at Newmarket

Thursday 29 April

We had another good winner this week when Beat The Rush landed a handicap over a mile and a half at Pontefract. This full-brother to our star hurdler Bouggler has always been held in high regard and it was a very straightforward task for him and he won going away. We will see how the handicapper reacts before making any further plans but he is a horse with plenty of potential and a bright future.

Trojan Gift ran a solid race to finish third at Ripon last Saturday and he will be one to keep on the right side of as he steps up in trip and gains more experience. The horses are running very well at the moment and we are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting 2010 on the racecourse.

Ouzbeck with owners after his win at Cheltenham

We have enjoyed a fantastic couple of days with two winners in the space of twenty-four hours. On Wednesday, Ouzbeck put up a fine performance to win the Class 2 Rundle & Co Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. He made some jumping errors early on in the race, but recovered his composure and finished up jumping really well and his final two jumps sealed him the race. It was a great training performance by Emma Lavelle and her team and it was great that so many of his owners had come to support him.

The next day, Diescentric was having his first run in the Wood Ditton Stakes at Newmarket and he was an easy winner for Henry Cecil and Tom Queally. He jumped out smartly and never really looked like being headed and was driven out with hands and heels. Bought in America as a yearling, Diescentric’s owners have been very patient and they fully deserved this success.

Beat The Rush also ran a great race this week at Beverley and finished second in a competitive handicap. He may now head to York’s May Meeting.

Wednesday 14 April

It has been a very busy week, with runners up and down the country. Last Thursday, Bouggler ran in the Grade One Liverpool Hurdle and although it was no surprise that Big Buck's won, we did think that Bouggler would run a lot better than he did. The effects of running some tough races on heavy ground may have taken their toll this season so Bouggler will now go novice chasing in the autumn.

The following day, King Of Leon ran a sound race at Kempton over a distance that would be a little on the short side for him but he finished fourth and will now have one more run over hurdles before he goes chasing after 1 May. On the same card, Beau Colonel had his first run and ran very encouragingly to finish sixth in the bumper. He was quite green but will have learnt a great deal and will have one more run before his summer holiday.

On Sunday, Orkney had his second run over hurdles and finished fourth in a competitive race at Market Rasen. The trip was on the short side for him but he ran well and will now head to Wetherby in two weeks time.

We will be busy again this week with runners at Beverley (Beat The Rush), Cheltenham (Ouzbeck) and Newmarket (Diescentric).

Orkney at Market Rasen

Monday 1 March

Axom XXI's Bouggler was extremely unlucky in the Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday and was robbed of at least second place after being interfered with by the winner, Souffleur, on the run-in. Jockey Aidan Coleman said that Bouggler lost vital momentum and it is an almost impossible task to get a horse going again after three miles on heavy ground. Fortunately, Bouggler came back safe and sound and his owners, in typical style, took the disappointment on the chin and are looking ahead to Aintree.

Three days later Ouzbeck made his debut for Emma Lavelle in a handicap hurdle at Southwell. He travelled and jumped really well and it was great to see Ouzbeck enjoy himself after a disappointing end to last season. He will now go back over fences and he has been given two entries at the Cheltenham Festival.

Bouggler at Haydock

Tuesday 2 February

The freezing temperatures looked set to ruin any chance of racing last weekend, but after a second inspection, Cheltenham’s Trials Day got underway at Prestbury Park. Axom XXI’s Bouggler ran a great race at Wincanton on Boxing Day and having been raised eight pounds for that run, there weren’t many options for him so the Grade 2 Cleeve Hurdle looked as good a race as any as he took on some established stars. He was a little keen early on and not the most fluent at some of his hurdles, but he ran a fine race and finished fourth under Jack Doyle. He was travelling ominously well at the top of the hill but Jack said that he didn’t quite get home on the holding ground. He will be seen to better effect on better ground so we can look ahead to the festivals and Emma Lavelle will make a decision where he will run next very soon.

Axom XXI’s Bouggler and owners after his fourth place in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham

Tuesday 5 January

We had just one runner over the Festive period and it was great to see Axom XXI's Bouggler return to form and run a promising race in the Pertemps Qualifier at Wincanton on Boxing Day. Bouggler jumped well on the whole and was involved in a duel with the highly regarded Golan Way from some way out but had to give best to his lighter-weighted opponent. He has reportedly come out of the race very well and will run again shortly.

We have just released details of a lovely two-year-old colt who is to be the second Axom horse trained at Herridge by Richard Hannon. He looks an exciting prospect and we are looking forward to see him progress this year.

Bouggler and owners at Wincanton

Thursday 10 December

It has been a fairly busy couple of weeks and the first of our two runners last weekend was Axom XVII’s Goldtrek. A lovely big filly, Goldtrek is learning all the time and continues to improve with each run. She found the tight bends of Lingfield a little hard to negotiate, but stayed on really well up the short home straight and finished sixth, beaten just over five lengths. She will be a better horse next year when she grows into her large frame and it will be to her benefit that she has made it onto the track three times as a two-year-old.

The following day, Axom XVI’s King Of Leon lined up at Sandown for a competitive novices’ hurdle over an extended two miles. The ground was officially heavy and wouldn’t have been ideal for King Of Leon, but he ran a great race to finish fourth. He is a big strapping horse and has ‘chaser written all over him and we are all looking forward to his future.

King Of Leon

Thursday 29 October

We enjoyed another winner last week when Axom XX’s Beat The Rush landed a nursery at Pontefract. He is a horse who has shown a lot of promise this season but he will improve as he matures and he looks an exciting prospect for the future. His full-brother, Bouggler, has been a star over hurdles and will soon be making his seasonal reappearance so Beat The Rush is certainly ensuring that the family name remains in lights. He will now have a winter break and everyone is looking forward to seeing what he can do next year.

Beat The Rush

Thursday 15 October

We have had a very busy time over the last couple of weeks with the sales in Ireland and Newmarket. We have bought two very nice prospects and details of both horses and who will be training them will be released shortly. Axom XV’s Spensley has proved a bit disappointing as he is a horse we have always liked and believed him, but he justified our faith on Tuesday when he lost his maiden tag at Leicester to win in good style.

It was a great result for his owners and he will now be put away for the winter and come back in early 2010 for a full turf campaign. The jumpers are all nearing a run now so we should have an exciting few months ahead.

Spensley

Wednesday 23 September

The lack of rain has meant that many of the horses have missed their intended engagements on the track recently but hopefully the weather will break soon and we will get some action. The National Hunt season is slowly gathering pace and the big Saturday races will start next month. With the jumps season in mind, there have been a couple of very interesting Open Days in recent weeks and at the end of August, Emma Lavelle opened the doors to Cottage Stables. Axom XXI’s Bouggler was paraded, together with Axom VII’s Ouzbeck. Both horses looked really well and we hope that their owners will have a lot of fun in the coming months.

Last weekend, many owners attended Henrietta Knight’s Open Day at West Lockinge. Axom’s two horses, King Of Leon and Absolution, look very exciting types and as soon as it rains, the former will be just about ready to run.

King Of Leon

Monday 27 July

We had our first two-year-old runner of the year on Saturday when Axom XX's Beat The Rush lined up for a maiden at Newcastle over seven furlongs. This full brother to our exciting hurdler, Bouggler, was green to start with but really got the hang of things by the end and finished second. This was a perfect start for him and he will be out again in about three weeks time.

August could prove to be an exciting month for us with quite a few runners up and down the country so we are hopeful that things continue to go well as the horses seem to be in good spirits.

Beat The Rush

Tuesday 30 June

The horses have all been running with credit recently but it was great to see Axom XII’s Mooted finally get his head in front again after over a year. He has not always been the easiest of horses to predict but he has settled down really well and Julie Camacho and Steve Brown have done a brilliant job with him. He was sent up to Musselburgh for a six-runner event and he travelled very well throughout and stayed on encouragingly to take the honours. He should be out again in a couple of weeks.

Mooted

Friday 26 June

Most of the horses have been running well without winning recently but at least they seem to be in good form. Axom XV’s Spensley improves with every run and is now eligible for handicaps. He ran well at Newmarket last week and stayed on well in the closing stages to suggest a step-up in trip would suit. It has taken a bit of time for the penny to drop, but he is a lovely horse with plenty of scope and should keep on improving with age and experience.

Axom XIII’s Orkney won twice for us last year, but he ran well below par at Ayr last week. He has been off the track for a while so he may have just been a little rusty, but he should redeem himself very soon as he is a horse we have always had faith in. Axom XII’s Mooted ran very well last week to finish second on his first attempt over a mile and a half at Ripon. Mooted has not always been straightforward, but Julie Camacho and her husband Steve Brown have done a great job with him and his owners should have plenty of fun over the summer as he loves fast ground.

The jumpers are about to start walking ahead of the National Hunt season and they have all done very well for their summer holidays. With the likes of Bouggler, King Of Leon and Ouzbeck, together with the new three-year-old in training with Henrietta Knight, we can look forward to a very exciting season.

Axom XV’s Spensley at Sandown

Monday 11 May

All of our jumpers are now on holiday but we finished the season on a high note, with Axom XXI’s Bouggler finishing third in the Grade One Champion Novices’ Hurdle at Punchestown. Bouggler ran a great race but could not go with the Willie Mullins trained pair off the final bend and stayed on gamely to take third. He looks a very exciting prospect for next season and the aim could well be the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Axom XV’s Spensley made his racecourse debut at Kempton last week and after missing the break he could never get competitive. He will come on a lot for the run and will be seen to much better effect over further and on easy ground.

We have just bought a lovely three-year-old gelding by Craigsteel from Ireland and he will be joining Henrietta Knight shortly. He has not yet been officially released for sale but details will be posted on the website shortly.

Axom XXI’s Bouggler at Punchestown

Monday 6 April

We enjoyed a tremendously exciting day on Saturday when Axom XXI’s Bouggler landed the Grade 2 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle on only his second start over hurdles. To have a winner on Grand National day is something his owners will never forget and they certainly have a lot to look forward to with this horse. It was a great training performance from Emma Lavelle and her team at Cottage Stables and big thanks must also go to Julie Camacho and Steve Brown, who did a wonderful job with Bouggler as a two and three-year-old.

Axom VII’s Ouzbeck didn’t fare so well on Thursday and finished fifth in the Grade 2 Novices’ Chase. He looks to have lost his way temporarily but I’m sure he will be back to his best next season.

Monday 2 March

It was great to have our first winner of the year on Saturday when Axom XXI's Bouggler really impressed on his hurdling debut at Kempton. Our four-year-old son of Tobougg ran a fine race and came clear on the run in to score by twenty-four lengths. He will have another run shortly and then a tilt at one of the better hurdle races at either Aintree or Punchestown may be on the cards.

On the same day, Axom VII's Ouzbeck ran in the valuable Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury and finished fifth under Choc Thornton. He jumped and travelled well and just got a little tired with his big weight. Ouzbeck won't go to Cheltenham but could head to Aintree on the first day of the Grand National meeting.

Thursday 26 February

Axom VII's Ouzbeck had his first run of the year on Saturday but unfortunately, it was over quite quickly as he unseated Choc Thornton at the third fence. Herecomesthetruth went on to win the race under Ruby Walsh. Ouzbeck had enjoyed a good break over the winter and was very fresh at Kempton on Saturday, getting warm in the paddock and never concentrating. He has been given an entry at Newbury this Saturday so fingers crossed he will bounce back to his best form then.

Our Open Morning at Stockley Farm went very well on Sunday and it was great to see the two-year-olds being paraded in the sunshine. There are just a handful of shares available in each horse now so if you are interested in any of them, please call us to arrange a viewing.

The Diesis ex Hawzah colt, who will be joining Henry Cecil in Newmarket

Thursday 5 February

The weather has played havoc with the racing calendar and we are still without a runner this year. Added to this, we have unfortunately had to CANCEL our Open Morning on Sunday 8 February. It has been rescheduled for Sunday 22 February. We hope to see you then.

Monday 22 December

We have now had our last runners and 2008 and it could not have been a better end to the year with a double last Thursday, taking our total number of winners to fifteen for the year. Axom XIII's Orkney had won at Southwell the previous week and put up another excellent performance to win there again. He is a lovely big horse with lots of scope and ability and his best days look to be ahead of him. He will now have a short break and return for a spring campaign on the turf.

Later on in the day, Axom XVI's King Of Leon ran in his second Bumper at Ludlow. He was most impressive, winning comfortably and beating the Nicky Henderson trained favourite. This was trainer Henrietta Knight's first win for Axom and everyone at Ludlow had a truly memorable day. 2008 has been a vintage year for Axom and we have finished the year with a very healthy strike-rate of 21%. Fingers crossed that 2009 will prove to be just as successful.

Thursday 11 December

The horses have been running well of late and it was great to see Axom XIII's Orkney win at Southwell yesterday. He is a grand horse with lots of scope and talent but has taken a bit of time. He will be even better next year and will probably have one more run on the all-weather before being put away for a turf campaign in 2009. He could also make an exciting jumping prospect in the future.

Axom VI's Karate Queen has been running well of late and was unlucky not to finish better than third at Kempton last week. She has given her owners plenty of fun and heads to the sales later this month. Axom XII's Mooted also finished third last week when lining up at Wolverhampton. He has been a little frustrating but seems to be coming back to his best now.

Axom XIII's Orkney with owners following his win at Southwell - 10 December 2008

Tuesday 4 November

We enjoyed another winner last week when Axom II's Et Maintenant stormed to victory in a handicap chase at Huntingdon. Given a great ride by Jack Doyle, Et Maintenant travelled very well throughout the race and won by a decisive three lengths. Trainer Emma Lavelle has done a great job with Et Maintenant and has now won two races with him. Axom XII's Mooted ran on the same day at Great Leighs and put up a promising display to finish in mid division. This horse looks to be heading back the right way and should give his owners some enjoyment this winter.

Friday 24 October

It has been a fantastic week with Axom VII's Ouzbeck winning the Dick Francis 'Silks' Handicap Chase at Cheltenham last Saturday. Given a cool ride by Robert Thornton, Ouzbeck cruised to victory to record one of Axom's finest ever wins. This win brings Axom's total for 2008 to eleven so far and with some exciting prospects due to hit the racecourse soon, there could be more to come.

A couple of days earlier, Axom XVI's King Of Leon made his racecourse debut in a Bumper at Uttoxeter. Travelling supremely well for most of the race, King Of Leon got tired in the last furlong and was eased down by Sam Thomas. He will come on a lot for the run and will have learnt a lot from the experience. Axom VI's Karate Queen ran a great race at Kempton on the same day, leading the field and just getting caught in the shadow of the line to finish fourth and be beaten only half a length by the winner.

Our American yearlings have now arrived and have settled in well. We will be releasing information on these new acquisitions very shortly.

Tuesday 29 September

We have had a frustrating time over the last few weeks, with many of the horses running well and just missing out on top honours. On Friday, Axom IX's Title Role ran another fine race in defeat at Wolverhampton but he has been very unlucky not to win again this year. He could not quicken off a slow pace this time but he is game and consistent and will be one to watch next time.

The following day, Axom's exciting young 'chaser, Ouzbeck, was upped in class and sent to Market Rasen for a Grade 2 race. He jumped and travelled with his normal fluency but he over-jumped the sixth fence and stumbled, unseating Choc Thornton. This was most unfortunate but something you come to expect with racing - Ouzbeck was fine after the race and still thinks that he won as he passed the post in front! He now heads to Cheltenham on Friday 17 October.

Shares are selling fast in our lovely yearling filly by Medallist and our two purchases from Keeneland are due to arrive in England in a couple of weeks. We will release details on both yearlings as soon as they arrive.

Axom VII's Ouzbeck at Market Rasen

Thursday 14 August

We enjoyed our tenth winner of the year last week when Axom III's Bouggler scored a decisive victory at Newcastle under an enterprising ride from Royston Ffrench. Bouggler has been one of the most consistent horses in the Axom string and it was a great success for everyone involved, particularly Julie Camacho and her team who have done such a good job with him. He looks to have a bright future and has hurdling stamped all over him.

Axom XI's Gaelic Dancer made his racecourse debut last week at Kempton and put up a great performance to finish fifth of twelve in a very competitive maiden. The owners of Gaelic Dancer have been very patient and it was a great result for them. James Given is likely to keep Gaelic Dancer quite busy over the next couple of months and he should give his owners a lot more fun.

Monday 28 July

We have enjoyed another very good week with Axom VII's Ouzbeck winning his fourth race on the bounce with an easy victory at Bangor on Tuesday evening. He travelled and jumped very well in the novices' chase to beat Chrysander by thirty-two lengths. He will now have a short break before be aimed at a £20,000 novices' chase at Market Rasen at the end of September.

Axom II's Et Maintenant ran on the same card and ran well for a long way in the feature chase before tiring and eventually finishing sixth. He will probably go back to Bangor on 1 August for a similar race. Axom III's Bouggler has been a model of consistency all season and he put up another very encouraging performance on Monday evening to finish third in a 2 mile handicap at Beverley. He was a little unlucky and it surely won't be long before he is in the Winners' Enclosure.

Tuesday 08 July

Axom IV's Sea Admiral returned to Brighton  last  week and landed the second win of his career when taking the 1m3f handicap under Ryan Moore. Once again, he really showed his ability to stay and is likely to be stepped up further in trip next time. Roger Charlton has done a great job with this son of Sinndar and Sea Admiral is clearly in excellent heart at present. This win was Axom's eighth of the year - a fantastic 2008 so far.

Axom VI's Karate Queen ran at Salisbury last Sunday and she looked as though she might get placed two furlongs out, but she seemed to tire in the closing stages and finished midfield. She will hopefully put her best foot forward soon as she is a horse that Andrew Balding has always liked. Axom V's Lady In Chief never got competitive at Hamilton on  last  Tuesday and she will be stepped up in trip again next time.

Axom IV's Sea Admiral after winning at Brighton - 1 July 2008

Friday 13 June

We have had a good week with two winners and the total for the year now stands at seven. Axom VII's Ouzbeck is proving a real star and he put up another great performance at Hexham on Saturday to win the novice chase by a comfortable six lengths. Once again, he jumped very well and he never looked in any danger. He may now have one more race before a well deserved break.

Axom IV's Sea Admiral is a really nice stamp and it was good to see him get his head in front at Brighton on Wednesday. He was sent off the 11/4 second favourite and he was given an inspired ride by Chris Catlin to make the running. He travelled very well and did really well to come back after getting headed a furlong from home. He should give his owners plenty of fun this summer.

Axom V's Lady In Chief ran at Beverley on Wednesday and it was pleasing to see her run a much better race than at Southwell last time. She was plugging on at the end and will undoubtedly improve when sent over further. Axom III's Bouggler ran well without ever really getting into contention at Yarmouth on Thursday and I'm sure it won't be long before he will be in the Winners' Enclosure.

Tuesday 20 May

Axom VII's Ouzbeck made a spectacular start to the new National Hunt season with an emphatic success at Bangor on Saturday. This was Ouzbeck's first run over fences and he couldn't have been more impressive as he came home seventeen lengths clear of the second horse. He will probably have another run before enjoying a summer break. This win gave Axom its fifth of the year.

Monday 12 May

Last week was certainly one to remember with two winners in two days. On Monday 5 May, Axom XII's Mooted lined up at Windsor for a mile maiden and overcame traffic problems to win in good style. Trainer Roger Charlton was delighted with him and it was even more impressive considering he got loose before the race on his way down to the start. This was only his second race and he will certainly be one to watch this summer.

A day later, Axom II's Et Maintenant showed everyone what he has promised for so long by winning a decent handicap chase at Exeter. Tom Siddall gave this French-bred gelding a lovely ride and it didn't really look in any doubt up the straight. His owners have been very patient and it was great to see them enjoy their moment of glory. He is likely to continue on through the summer and he should continue to give his owners a bit more fun.

Axom IV's Sea Admiral had his second run of the season at Nottingham on Friday and could not really get into the race from a wide draw. He ran on well up the home straight and picked off a majority of the runners to finish sixth and he will be an interesting one to note next time as he is in good heart at present.

Axom XII receiving their prize following Mooted's win at Windsor

Thursday 1 May

Congratulations to Axom VII, who enjoyed their second win of the last National Hunt season following Ouzbeck's tenacious display at Market Rasen on Saturday 26 April. Given a lovely ride by Barbury Castle Conditional jockey, Gerard Tumelty, Ouzbeck wore down the David Pipe trained Qulinton to get home by a head. As ever, Ouzbeck jumped really well and he is now likely to novice chasing in the autumn.

Thursday 24 April

It has been a particularly busy week with a number of runners up and down the country. On Wednesday 16 April, Axom III's Bouggler made his seasonal reappearance and ran a great race to finish second at Beverley over a mile and a half. He clearly appreciated this step up in trip and is sure to give his owners plenty of enjoyment this summer. Axom II's Et Maintenant ran on a cold and blustery night at Taunton last Friday and despite being flat to the boards from the start, he stayed on really well to finish third in the Novices' Handicap Chase. He has now not been out of the first three at this course on three appearances to date.

Mooted, owned by Axom XII, had his first trip to the races on Saturday when he lined up for a very competitive looking maiden over a mile. The soft ground would not have suited him but he ran a very good race to finish sixth of twenty. Trainer Roger Charlton was delighted with him and he too looks one to follow this summer. Axom IX's Title Role, fresh from his Kempton victory two weeks previously, ran at Windsor on Monday night in a mile and three furlongs handicap. He ran very well and looked the likeliest winner a furlong out but just flattened out to finish a close fourth, beaten just two lengths by the useful winner, Cape Colony.

Axom XIII's Orkney enjoyed a very satisfactory start to his season by finishing third in the one and a half miles maiden at Southwell on Tuesday. He is a lovely big horse and will only improve with time. Axom V's Lady In Chief also ran at Southwell and didn't fare so well. She showed real promise at Newcastle on her first run of the year and I'm sure will be back on track next time. The Beechdown Braves' Farefield Lodge is a game type and he finished fifth on his first run on the all-weather at Kempton on Tuesday. He will probably be stepped up in trip next time and could be interesting over seven furlongs.
